Scrolls, pleats, twists… The swirling, flowing, silken texture of ribbon has inspired Soie Dior, the latest couture collection from Dior Joaillerie presented in the midst of Paris Couture.
With pops of colour that echo Raf Simon’s recent Dior Couture fall 2015 runway, the collection toys with the sumptuous texture and colours of silk. Bursts of bright, precious gemstones are suspended among white and yellow gold ‘ribbons’, frozen in movement. Each sensual piece of jewellery has been crafted in Paris, intricately articulated so that it moves against the body with the very suppleness of the material it is emulating.
Diamonds cascade down necklines in the Soie Dior collection, with marquise, baguette, oval, pear and brilliant cuts mounted at ever so slightly different heights to convey the shimmering surface of silk. Around the wrist, ribbons curl over themselves, gemstones and diamonds embellishing every millimetre of gold.
Dior Joaillerie designer Victoire de Castellane has created Soie Dior in homage to a fabric that quite literally binds the world of Dior couture fashion and its jewellery designs. The jewels in the collection weave this way and that, settling into elegant jewels that dangle from the ear, caress the neck and weave around the fingers.
Says de Castellane: “When you play with a ribbon, it’s instinctive, ephemeral, and I wanted to keep that notion of freedom…”
